au revoir! we love ya!

au revoir

The dailytwitter team bring the blog to a close today with a big thanks to the organiser @loiclemeur et al for pulling together such an eclectic mix of people, speakers and workshops over the two days. We are excited to have participated and had the chance to meet so many great people.

We had such a great response to to the flickr group http://www.flickr.com/groups/leweb08 - with 14 people joining and sharing hundreds of images.

Our ‘I love le web because…’ video managed to find its way into the bookmarks of many delicious accounts including @loiclemeur and also into some of french press!

We canned our ‘Vote for the top lover of Web 2.0′ mainly due to lack of response, and think we need a much more attractive set of candidates next year. That aside, we learned a lot about event based blogging and next year will be better prepared with a larger team.

Don’t forget you can follow our exploits at other events through the coming months at www.dailytwitter.com - so starting following the team at @dailytwitter

As for Le Web 09, we will see you all next year - until then have fun and enjoy!

i love le web because….

and so the dailytwitter team asked a few people around the event, some of the faces you will recognise others are new, but we have found the answer we think in that ‘le web’ really is about LOVE bringing people together to share new ideas and thoughts.

The event has been fantastic so far with a huge eclectic mix of individuals. Enjoy!

A special big thanks goes out to Chrystelle, we didn’t manage to catch your name or company, as we ran off in such a hurry - but i think you made our ending just perfect :)

UPDATED: 11/12/08 - well after much hunting and searching we found Chrystelle - dailytwitter very pleased and happy he kept his promise. dt

do French graffer’s have roller skates?

graf

we were wondering how it was possible to graffiti a moving object, as such it would be highly dangerous and likely to impair the quality of the finished artifact - running after a van would clearly make it difficult to focus on

1) on coming traffic
2) the actual graf image

So, we came to the conclusion that all French graffiti artists must wear roller skates.

where did all the girls go?!

girls

the dailytwitter team worked out at the NetVibes Cocktail party last night there was clearly a 1 to 1 ration of girls to boys - unfortunately all the girls were hanging fom the ceiling.

And so we pose the question ‘why is this a male dominated industry?’

Docteur Jekyll et mister Hyde

blogger

its interesting watching the dynamics of the LeWeb seeing the different people, been doing some thinking here, we have a whole bunch of different personality types - naturally one would expect, but the closer i look at the event, a few key types start to emerge

Front rowers
Demeanor: typically characterized because of the way they use crazy glue to secure the front row seats to their derrière. Endlessly typing away into their computers with rabid fervent life streaming
Habits: twitching camcorder or nokia during panic QIK moments as something happens stage

Wanderers
Demeanor: generally found wandering with an orange bag hanging low to the ground, looking like they lost their doggie - have a habit of wandering into rooms stopping, looking like they saw someone they know and wandering off
Habits: like blocking the walkways, and tend to be found generally everywhere

Amateur photographers
Demeanor: similar to the wanderers except they carry SLR’s which they clearly have no idea how to use, tend to step in front of your field of view and snap away at random moments. Lack telephone lenses, hence majority of pictures are of wide-open space and teeny weenie people
Annoying Habits: use of a blinding flash when it’s not necessary

Pro bloggers
Demeanor: see front rowers - sometime wear silly hats and talk very loudly
Habits: unknown, they seem to be able to blog their way out of anything and have a secret hand signal thang going on…

Aisle loiterers
Demeanor: similar to wanderers except they don’t wander thy stand still in aisles and walk ways. Generally found outside doorways or drinking fountains - tend to gather in groups of 3 to 4 occasionally reach 6 plus - which is technically a crowd.
Habits: usually speaking French ;)

Invariably i have probably missed a few, so feel free to comment and let me know.

Love at LeWeb in the mortuary?

did you know that the event location for LeWeb this year is in what used to house Paris Undertaker services - that would explain why it is so cold in here..

the groovy rooms and my reflections

two rooms under the event hall are fitted out with what appears to be cheap IKEA furniture - there are two. room one has the love theme with cushions and hearts filling the room, whilst the other has the IKEA look with sofa’s, diddy coffee tables on which i am writing this blog.

As you sit and write, various people with camera’s pass by and take random shots for their blogs, scrapbooks or diaries. Its like they are collecting moments in time to remind themselves of the experience here.

Interestingly i am beginning to think that you can spend far to much time trying to lifestream everything you see and lose the focus and moment - you need to take time to step back and really feel the energy and passion that is buzzing around the event.

Pausing for a moment to experience it, rather than just lifestreaming it all.

down in the cellar we crept

dailytwitter posse has been hunting around the startup gallery underneath the main event hall, taking a peak at the startups that have been displaying their wares. It reminds me of something resembling a Bastille cellar - with its arched roof and open space - not that i am terribly familiar with a Bastille - it just has that feel.

couple of startup’s we found interesting

shoutem
Shoutem - is a roll your own microblogging community - based in Slovakia with VC backing they have built what appears to be a great concept, letting users build their own pages from tweets - does this sound familiar - we like it - take a look, its launching tomorrow

bluekiwi
Wayn.com - a social network with bags of enthusiasm and users - 15million we gather speaking with one of the frontmen at the stand. We had a look through and it seems like its a 30+ site - all the usual features of a social network - so we are wondering why people don’t facebook or myspace we guess is everyone is different.

fring
Fring.com - this isn’t new to the dailytwitter team, but we think this little app rocks - lets you aggregate a number of social networks - Facebook, Skype, MSM, GoogleTalk, Twitter, Yahoo, AIM, ICQ and Orkut accounts under one hood. iPhone app. Check it out - this comes highly recommended

bluekiwi
BlueKiwi - London and Paris based company showing off their alternative to the company intranet - little bit like IBM Blueroom, except they changed the word room to Kiwi - nice one! That aside it does bring ’social’ and community aspects into intranets which have typically been boring, drab and full of corporate mantra from our experience.

goojet
Finally http://www.goojet.com/index.htmlGoojet, you can get the iPhone look on your Nokia without the impact of it emptying your pockets of cash. Put simply this is a great little idea. It brings together various applications for your phone into one GUI and provides a social network for its users. As more mobile operators and handset manufacturers build the touch screens onto standard product we can see goojet being a great product - but at the moment using it with the Nokia is like trying to eat spaghetti with a spoon.

bonjour, welcome to #leweb

in a curious warehouse we all sat (@holychic tells me this used to house the dead) - the morning’s events kicked off with some great speakers, Microsoft being the most interesting of all with some interesting angles. As usual the Microsoft posse are still on the ‘lock in’ mode, despite the questioning from the Gillmor Gang Leader.

Google has some interesting comments on the integration of Jaiku into their product offering stating it would fit naturally with their other products.

A somewhat skeptically dailytwitter thinks they have missed the boat on this one, and twitter has gone into a clear lead in the micro blog market.

Interestingly it seems Microsoft may be in discussions with Twitter - as hint during the mornings convo’s - but we suspect the smiles on Dan’l Lewin’s face did hide something that he wasnt prepared to divulge.

We are facing some serious lack of WiFi - to the point where its become unbearable, anyhows! Coffee break at the moment and we are off to grab some more photos, footage and cause some general mayhem

Love!

dailytwitter sat 6 rows back from the front at #leweb getting a good view of the start of the conference, kick off with the beatle athem of love we are just starting and we are getting into the mood of Love at LeWeb.

With a plethora of cameras, photographers and media types buzzing around the AMAZING place.
